How Can Acupuncture Help with Breeched Babies?

Acupuncture is very effective for all phases of fertility and pregnancy, and can even help when a baby is breeched. There are reasons for this condition in Oriental medicine and there is also a high success in treating it. There was once a time when breeched babies were extremely dangerous to the mother and the baby, now the risk is much less with the ability to perform C-Sections. What I have noticed with most of the women who I see for a breeched situation is that they don't want to have a C-Section.

The acupuncture treatment consists of using moxibustion and needles. Some acupuncturists only use moxa, but I find that is not enough to turn the breeched baby. The acupuncture point is on the pinky toe and generally I feel the mother's pulses and then come up with a treatment plan that includes the "breeched baby" acupuncture point.

For this type of treatment to be effective it is important for the mother receive acupuncture between weeks 34 and 36. If before week 34 the baby has time to flip back around into the breeched position again. If it is after 36 weeks the baby may be too large to flip. As a side note, it is possible to prevent this condition from occurring in the first place. By receiving acupuncture during your pregnancy it can help to treat the imbalance that is going on in the body that is causing the baby to be in the wrong position.
