Acupuncture for Sports Injuries and Pain
Most people experience pain at some time in their lives, whether from an injury, illness, or an unknown cause. Pain could be seen as a warning signal from your body, trying to tell you something is out of balance.
Taking medication may help get rid of the symptom, the pain, but it doesn't address the underlying reason the pain is occurring in the first place. Acupuncture is a time-tested, safe, effective and drug-free way to eliminate pain. And best of all, there are no side effects, except feeling relaxed! The World Health Organization (WHO) and the National Institute of Health (NIH) acknowledge the benefits of acupuncture in treating and eliminating pain due to a wide range of causes.
By inserting fine, sterile acupuncture needles at specific points, acupuncture is able to break up blockages of Qi that may be causing the pain. Qi usually flows smoothly throughout the body, but when it gets stuck or blocked symptoms show up. By getting the Qi flowing again the pain usually goes away. Some things that can cause Qi to be blocked is poor diet, physical trauma, emotional trauma, inherited weakness of Qi, or stress. Your acupuncturist may also suggest adjunct therapies to enhance your treatment and healing. Those may be stretching, massage, yoga, or by making dietary changes.
